Due to fossil fuels resources depletion, there is a need to seek for new solutions that are based on the renewable energy sources or solutions that can be more energy efficient in order to ensure energy security in the future. In this paper, two types of devices used for chilled water production for air conditioning purpose were evaluated. Energetic and environmental performances of compressor chiller powered by mechanical energy and direct-fired absorption chiller powered by gas were analyzed and compared. Operating costs for devices were also estimated. Whereas, environmental impact of devices was calculated on the basis of Carbon Footprint. Although the absorption chiller is characterized by much smaller electricity demand, high coefficient of performance of compressor chiller makes it more competitive. |
