This article presents the noninvasive attempt to determine the moisture of building materials with the use of electric methods. In comparison to other measurement techniques like chemical or physical, electric methods enable quick moisture estimation and are suitable solution for moisture changes monitoring. Among the electric measurement devices the most popular are capacitance and resistance sensors. Since several years the attempts to determine moisture of building materials and barriers have been made with the use of the surface TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) probes which, before the mentioned tests, had been invasive and improper for building materials moisture determination. This type of TDR probes enabled noninvasive measurements of moisture inside building materials and became useful for moisture changes monitoring in laboratory and in-situ conditions. For the experiment three model walls were built and exposed to moisture influence. Water uptake process was monitored by surface TDR sensor prototypes. The obtained results confirmed the functionality of described method. |
