There are a few ways to improve the properties of the polymer matrix composites. In this papaer we describe one of the ways, which is surface modification of fine mineral filler with coupling agent based on organic compounds of silicon. The mechanism of interaction of organo-silanes with both the matrix and the filler, has been described in detail. Tested composite were obtained by filling high density polyethylene with four types of Neubug Siliceous Earth, two treated with coupling agent and two without treatment. The composite pellets were prepared in co-rotation twin-screw extrusion process, which were then injection molded to create specimens. Ready-made injection molded samples have been subjected to a static tensile test and hardness test. The impact of coupling agent treatment on results of Young modulus, tensile strenght, deformations under the largest tensile stress, deformation upon fracture and Shore hardness have been discussed and analyzed.
