Nowadays mobile devices have many types of embedded sensors. They may be used for the various purposes. Motion sensors, make up a category of sensors which detect device motion. Accelerometers and gyroscopes are examples of such sensors. The position sensors, including magnetometer for example, constitute the second category. Environment sensors are the third group. It includes barometers, thermometers and photometers. Data from these sensors may be read using mobile application, dedicated for a particular mobile platform. This chapter presents the results obtained from two such applications using accelerometers and magnetometers. Sensor output is used for road quality assessment and for motion type detection. Two most popular mobile operating systems are included: Android and iOS. Road quality tests were conducted while driving with mobile devices mounted in a car holder.
