| The article is devoted to the historical roots and spatial formation of the Kovel town, which is now an important administrative, economic and transport centre in the North-Western region of the Ukraine. The status of a town this settlement obtained at the beginning of the XVI century. Spatial organization and landscape of the old town were naturally adapted to the island site between two branches of the river Turia. After becoming a part of tsarist Russia in the late XVIII century, the city became the object of urban transformations, which were characterized by a series of fixing and projecting cartographic documents. Formed on regular compositional principles, these projects were not realized. However, they paved the way for further development of the city |
