The first half of 17th century was characterized by intensive missionary activities of the Jesuit Order, which had founded several colleges and residences in the cities of Galicia, Volhynia and Podolia. One of the largest Jesuit Collegium appeared in the Ostrog town, thanks to the donations of Anna-Aloisia Ostrogska-Chodkiewicz. To spread their influence, the Jesuits created in the outlying villages several permanent missions, the largest one appeared in the Kniahynyn village within the walls of old castle. For the arrangement of this mission, some commercial, educational and residential premises were built, including premises for the duchess herself. Newly opened archival sources allowed a closer idea about this architectural complex. |
