The main aim of the paper is impact analysis of the effective bond length of tapes made of carbon fibre reinforce polymers (CFRP) strengthening thin-walled steel beams. In order to investigate this issue, laboratory tests and the numerical models were developed. The laboratory tests of four point bending, were conducted on steel beams made of thin-walled sigma profile. Among all samples, one beam was bare and two beams were restrained with two different bond length of CFRP tapes. Next, numerical models were developed taking into account laboratory results and different bond length of CFRP tapes. Numerical models of the considered beams were developed in the program Abaqus and subjected to validation and verification based on laboratory results. In the paper special attention was paid to the evaluation of the possibility to increase the critical load capacity with simultaneous limitation of displacements of the beams by appropriate position of CFRP tape.
