The paper deals with an influence of delamination, being one of the kinds of defects typical for composite structures on mechanical characteristics of composite cantilever beam. The main goal of the performer Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was to find out the general nature of damage influence on the structures’ properties by eigenfreąuency extraction. Two geometrical parameters, i.e. the size and the location of a delaminated zone were taken into account. The numerical simulations were performer in the Abaqus/CAE software environment. The models contained a single local delamination with an appropriate contact definitione. The defect’s length was from 10% to 100% of the oyerall beam’s length. The resuIts obtained for two different sequences of plies have shown a significant effect of the delamination on the composite structure’s mechanical properties. In particular, the location of the delaminated zone had non-uniform influence on the decrease of subsequent eigenfrequecies, what in some cases help to evade the resonance. Importance of other factors, ex. Friction or the boundary conditions, as well as experimental yerifieation of the numerical results were also considered. |
