The paper describes a new process of skew rolling of steel balls, in which the working surfaces of the tools used are in the form of a helical roller wedge. The suitability of the new method was tested by means of a numerical simulation which analyzed the impact of the basic process parameters on the forming course. The calculations done with Simufact software additionally made it possible to determine temperature and effective strain distributions in the formed semi-finished products as well as to determine force parameters of the rolling process. The final verification of the process of helical-wedge rolling of balls was conducted in laboratory conditions at the AGH University of Science and Technology. The tests involved rolling a series of 10006 steel balls with a diameter of 33 mm. The tests have proved that the products obtained in rolling meet the demands for bails used in ball mills. |
