There are several reasons why fluid–solid interaction still challenge well established numerical methods. The wide spectrum of physical phenomena, that arises due to the simple appearance of a solid body in a stream of fluid medium, crosses the borders of disciplines, which makes the case more complicated. The paper focuses on aerodynamic loads that act on building like bodies standing up to wind. The core problem of computer simulation here is a wide range of turbulence that has to be captured in order to obtain acceptable precision from an engineering point of view. Presented research is a part of the author’s ongoing study on Discrete Vortex Method and its applications. The research project considers a prismatic block with an oblong base set in an air stream at different angles of a wind attack. Fundamental ideas behind the method and obtained results have been presented. Confrontation between numerical output and a wind tunnel experiment undoubtedly helps to form an opinion on capability of the method. |
