	Purpose: in the context of the Polish energy policy the main objective of this research is to identify ways to reduce energy consumption by households. Methodology: quantitative method, which consists in comparing the energy expenditure of the average Polish family living in different types of housing in the three winter months of 2012 and 2013. Originality/value: the validity of the publication is to point to methods of reducing energy consumption in the country by retail customers which are households, by indicating the type of housing that the energy consumption of an average family are smallest. Findings: indication of the type of housing in which it would be most preferred to reside Polish citizens to the energy consumption in the country in the group of households decreased.
