The analysis of correctness (likelihood) of assumptions related to estimating the uncertainty of the
measurement results of noise indicators Lden ,Le, Ln and Ld ; applied in the management of the acoustic environment
protection, was discussed in the paper. Investigations were directed to the analysis of asymmetry of the density
probability distribution function of the random sample results, which determine the distribution asymmetry of the
arithmetic mean from the sample. The presence of this property can call into question the correctness of the current
methods of determining the uncertainty of measurements of environment acoustic hazards.
The analysis of asymmetry of the probability distribution of the sound level results in a road traffic, was
performed. The data base for these analyses constituted the results of the 10-year continuous monitoring of the road
traffic noise around one of the main arterial road in Krakow. The probability distributions of the sound level results
Li ; i=1,2 ,...,n, as well as related to them probability distributions of noise indicators Lden, Ln, Ld and Le, necessary
in the management of the acoustic environment protection, were estimated.
The object of investigations was the verification of the reference correctness of the obtained probability
distributions of the measurement results (sound levels Li i=1,2 ,..., n , as well as corresponding to them relative
energy: Li
i e =100.1 ; i=1,2,...,n) regarding the expected for them symmetry, characteristic for normal distributions.
This distribution is the condition of the correctness of the currently applied estimation methods of the control
assessments uncertainty.
