An application of the Macro Fiber Composite (MFC) actuator for enhancing performance of composite beams exhibiting the coupled bending-bending vibrations has been presented. The discussed modal flapwise – chordwise coupling results from laminate fibers’ orientation and layers stacking sequence. The mathematical representation of the master beam is based on an assumption of cross-sectional non-deformability leading to 1-D governing equations. The control moment resulting from embedded MFC is represented at the appropriate boundary condition. The derived system of equations takes into account a number of non-classical effects like material anisotropy, transverse shear, rotary inertia, cross-sectional warping phenomena etc. To suppress the coupled vibration exhibited by the composite specimen under consideration a linear proportional control strategy has been used. Comparison studies have been performed, including the impact of modal coupling magnitude on the control effectiveness. |
