he chapter deals with issues related to the use of porous titanium in industrial and commercial applications. The first part describes the properties of titanium and porous titanium, taking into account its porosity and influence on mechanical properties, permeability, and corrosion resistance. The second part concerns the principles of designing porous structures to achieve these intended properties. Principles and methods of design including regular and irregular structures as well as gradient structures are described. Porous surfaces that promote osteointegration in medicine have also been characterized. The last part focuses on the applications of porous titanium—in medicine, transport vehicles, flow systems, electrochemical applications, and others. The end of the chapter contains a summary and future predictions. |
