Passive house is a standard of construction characterized by very good parameters of isolation and the use of solutions aimed at reduction of energy consumption. According to the modern standards, passive house requires little energy for space heating, which is less than 15 kWh/m2. It is possible to achieve such parameters if you replace traditional heating system with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the architectural – construction shape of the building has an impact on reduction of energy loss during the use of the building. The right choice of construction materials and the coordination of the building body may minimize the thermal loss and the need of heating energy. The authors claim in this paper that the effectiveness of the passive house is not only dependent on one thing: the type of the construction material, but it is rather the sum of many factors such as a body of a building, right situation in the space, and the ratio of the volume to the surface of external walls (the shape factor A/V), which are the most important protection from the outside world.
