| We show that Lord Kelvin’s method of images is a way to prove genera-tion theorems for semigroups of operators. To this end we exhibit three examples: amore direct semigroup-theoretic treatment of abstract delay differential equations, anew derivation of the form of the McKendrick semigroup, and a generation theoremfor a semigroup describing kinase activity in the recent model of Ka ́zmierczak andLipniacki (J. Theor. Biol. 259:291–296,2009). |
