The paper investigates into the problem of continuity of works in consecusive work of a multiunit construction project. Crews of workers responible for particular processes complete their tasks within a work zone and then move to the next one to conduct the same kind of work; their place is taken over by a crew responsible for the next construction process in the work zone. The works may be scheduledby means of the classic Line-of-Balance approach, being the extension of planning methods used for repetitive production processes. The problem described in the paper concerns a case of the work zones being non-uniform in terms of workload, with the sequence of the crews moving from zone to zone fixed and the same for all crews. This sequence is the key factor affecting the project duration. The problem of finding the optimal sequence can be classified as permulation flow shop sequencing problem. the paper presents a modeling method that facilitates applying the "travelling salesman problem" algorithm to solving problems with minimization of crews' idle times. |
