Soil moisture measurements in a small depth of soil require the use of multiple probes placed in a different depths. It can be confusing when soil layer has several centimeters in thickness. The same situation is in the so-called ‘green walls’. Green walls are a flat boxes filled by soil with ornamental plants planted. Typically green walls have thickness up to twenty centimeters and are placed vertically on the building wall – mainly in cities. The aim of work was to design and produce the prototype of planar TDR probe which could be placed at the bottom of the container and would make soil moisture distribution in soil profile possible. The sensor has several probes with different dimensions, which means that each sensor has a different sensitivity zone and enables measurements of different thickness soil layers. Sensitivity zone of the probe for different dimensions were estimated using numerical simulations and also were experimentally verified. |
