In this paper, a method of modelling the process of cross wedge rolling (CWR) with upsetting has been presented. The method developed is based upon a division of a forming zone into a set of layers, that are then analysed in the conditions of plane state of strain as typical rotary compressing processes. It allows for determining the distributions of: forces, areas of material–tool contact, rolling radius, as well as the geometry of the object formed during the whole formation process. In addition, the method gives the possibility of determining the moment of certain effects emerging (slipping or buckling), restricting the balanced course of the process.
