| The development of communication technology created the basis of a new form of organisations - virtual organisations that may also operate as economic entities. They are a set of organisations independent and separate in terms of their location, legal and organisational form and finance system, but executing a common enterprise. The members of a virtual organisation are selected and appointed to perform particular tasks in stated time and their constellation changes dynamically. Virtual organisations have a network structure and are designed for implementation of rational management concepts. They also require highly developed information technologies. The idea of virtual organisations may be applied to construction project procurement. The paper presents characteristics of virtual organisations and the concept of project management system that incorporates models of organisational structure, management methods and techniques considered to apply best to such organisations and an IT system concept based on virtual reality. |
