The aim of the study was to determine the effect of copper addition in two forms: copper(II) sulfate and IDHA chelate, and in two concentrations, on the biodegradation of phenols under anaerobic conditions and on the efficiency of biogas production. The research was carried out in batch system in which the cereal straw was anaerobically digested. Phenol was added to obtain the initial concentration of 27 mg L−1. The biogas production and methane concentration in biogas were analyzed. Additionally, the biochemical tests were performed. Studies have shown that the addition of copper in two different concentrations and chemical forms did not significantly affect the biogas potential of the digested feedstock. However, it was found that it influenced the degradation of phenol. It was concluded that the increase in copper concentration up to 60 mg L−1 stimulated the processes of anaerobic biodegradation of phenol without lowering the biogas production. |
