This study examined the influence of applying agro-industrial wastes on the kinetics of biogas production in the co-digestion with sewage sludge (SS). Brewery spent grain (BSG) and acid cheese whey (ACW) were used as co-substrates. The research was conducted in semi-flow anaerobic reactors. The results indicate that the addition of ACW resulted in an improvement of the constant of the biogas production rate (k), as compared to the SS mono-digestion. The average k values were 0.102 and 0.096 h−1 at HRT of 20 and 18 d, respectively. Therein, the untapped biogas potential (UBP) maintained 1.49 and 2.54 L at HRT of 20 and 18 d, respectively. In the BSG presence, the negative influence on its kinetics was noticed. The average k values were 0.060 and 0.051 h−1 at HRT of 20 and 18 d, respectively. While UBP values were 8.2 and 16.1 L at HRT of 20 and 18 d, respectively. |
