The main trends in the research on dye-sensitized solar cells include investigation of new compounds that can act as sensitizers which exhibit a broad range of light absorption. This work presents the evaluation of the photovoltaic performance of catechol in dye cells. The energies of HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) and LUMO (lowest occupied molecular orbital) in a catechol molecule were determined and compared with the conductive band edge of the used semiconductor and redox potential of the electrolyte. The photoelectrical properties of catechol were studied based on the calculated chemical reactivity parameters. The cells sensitized with catechol were prepared and tested under standard conditions. |
