Comparative analysis of the measurement accuracy of geometric features of aircraft components measured by 3D digitisation system and coordinate measuring technique

In this paper, the measurement accuracy of geometric features of aircraft components are compared using a 3D digitisation system and coordinate measuring technique. Nowadays, integrated thin-walled components are more and more widely used in the aircraft industry, which poses new problems due to the occurrence of undesired non-dilatational strains after machining. In such cases fast and accurate diagnostics is essential to detect machining errors related to both geometry and dimensions. This is done using coordinate measuring machines and optical 3D scanners. These instruments have considerable potential, predominantly due to their accuracy. For this study, it was therefore of interest to compare them in this respect.
