The article investigates the influence of steel-polypropylene hybrid fibers on the flexural behavior of the reinforced high performance concrete beams with and without web opening by experimental as well as numerical studies. In the experimental measurements, the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system was used for non-contact measurement of deformation, opening of the initial crack and tracing of crack propagation to failure. The study has been shown that the inclusion of hybrid fibers can significantly increase the stiffness and the flexural strength of reinforced HPC beams. In addition, the ultimate strength of beam specimens prepared with the 1.1% hybrid fibers for full beams and 1.6% hybrid fibers for beams with openings is higher compared to conventional reinforced concrete specimens. Numerical analysis is performed to find the ultimate strength of the HPC beams to compare with experimental results. The nonlinear behavior of steel reinforcement and plain high performance concrete as well as the fibers behavior is simulated using appropriate constitutive models and experimental results. The results indicate that the ultimate strength, deformed shape and crack patterns of reinforced HPC beams obtained in the Finite Element Analysis (FEM) are confirming with the experimental results. |
