The study aimed to analyse the buckling behaviour and damage mechanics of thin, cross-ply CFRP plates after impact by using progressive deformation analysis. Thin-walled CFRP was chosen as the one presenting stability issues and delamination susceptibility due to slender geometry and low out-of-plane strength. The study showed, that the buckling behaviour of laminates during CAI is determined by the initial damage character caused by impact. As the main source of laminate stiffness loss, the characteristic delaminations and fibre cracks were identified. The nature of delamination growth and cracks causes were described and proven. |
