Road transport is currently the most common mode of transport. A
characteristic feature of road transport is that passengers and cargo are moved on roads by
wheeled means of transport (e.g. motor vehicles). Since the safety of people participating
in road traffic is one of the most important factors considered in the process of designing
road infrastructure and vehicles moving on it, the key issue is the use of safety systems in
modern vehicles.
According to data published by the European Commission, the number of fatalities and
people injured in road accidents on transport routes is steadily decreasing despite a three-
fold increase in traffic volume. The contributing factors include: infrastructure
development, construction of smart vehicles as well as improvement and application of
safety systems, which can be divided into active and passive systems. The safety of
transportation service is one of the key elements in running a business.
The paper presents the results of surveys conducted among professional drivers. The
survey concerned the evaluation of the effectiveness and legitimacy of using modern driver
control systems, which was conducted by professional drivers. The article also presents the
best known active safety systems employed in motor vehicles.
This paper aimed at presenting the results of authors’ own research pertaining to the
operation of selected modern safety systems used in modern cars, as well as to analyze the
drivers' approach to the use of such solutions, especially in the context of their usefulness
and influence on road safety.
