Re-contamination of water supplied through a water supply network most frequently occurs in its dead-ends. In many cases, these are located in the least urbanized areas of settlement units. Usually, the water intake from these pipelines is small, which leads to stagnation of the stored water and issues related to its deteriorating quality, especially in terms of microbiology. Traditionally, this problem has been solved by increasing the dosage of disinfectant in water supply stations, periodically flushing the pipelines or using network disinfection stations. Each of these methods has certain disadvantages and does not fully solve the indicated problem. The purpose of the current study is to present a novel disinfection solution of dead-end pipes. The solution developed herein combines a network disin- fection station with forced circulation of water in the water supply pipe. The proposed solution was tested using the hydraulic and quality calculations presented in the paper. As a result, the conditions for the application of the developed solution in actual water supply networks were indicated. |
