An inherent feature of the economy is the occurrence of crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world in 2020. At the time, many economic sectors collapsed. The development of innovation capabilities and digital competencies among various independent business entities (enterprises, employees, and households) is currently considered to be one of the key development trends in contemporary mechanisms that foster competitiveness in business environments. The aim of this chapter is to present the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on those factors that affect the development of enterprises in a changing socio-economic environment. The chapter references the authors’ reports and empirical studies; it suggests which aspects in the development of business entities require refinement and draws attention to the use of the development determinants of companies that have emerged during the current situation – primarily in the aspect of changes that have been caused by the introduction of Industry 4.0 solutions and have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. |
