The protection and development of castle courtyards in historical cities pose complex conservation challenges. This complexity arises from the need to reconcile the historical form of courtyards, often known only through relics, with contemporary and expanded functional needs. The aim of this article is to critically analyze selected concepts for the modern development of castle courtyards. The research material consisted of contemporary implementations in the development of castle courtyards in European cities, including 36 complexes. The criterion for selecting these objects was their location, closely tied to the spatial structure of the city. Another condition for choosing the analyzed examples was the form and scope of courtyard adaptation to various functions. Based on the conducted analysis, the authors of the article formulated conclusions regarding the conservation-oriented development of castle courtyards. |
