The value of an enterprise is created through a diverse set of factors that stem from its internal resources and market trends at a given time. Skillful management of the resources at hand plus a rapid response to external stimuli is the key to value creation. Changes in the environment, with which every entity is in constant interaction, can not only be a source of opportunities but also a danger to businesses. One of the factors that significantly affected the economy, both in Poland and around the world, was the COVID-19 pandemic. Economic changes resulting from the pandemic had a significant impact on many economic areas, including the development of supply and demand in the real estate market and the mutual needs and opportunities for investors and buyers. The purpose of this chapter was to assess the financial condition and market valuation of real estate development companies between 2019 and 2021, that is, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on their financial performance. The research was conducted among companies in the real estate development industry listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and included in the WIG-real estate index. The research methods used included literature studies, analyses of quarterly financial statements, ratio analyses, and stock price analyses. This made it possible to assess the level of financial performance and its impact on the change in the value of the surveyed companies. |
