| Self-healing properties of materials are no longer in the realm of fantasy. Such materials are increasingly capable of aiding in diminishing and/or avoiding structural damage. Self-healing leads to microcapsules reconstructing the damaged area or scaling the damaged component. The main aim of the present work was to analyze the occurrence of corrosion in the AZ31 magnesium alloy in potentiodynamic and electro- chemical impedance spectroscopy to study the behavior of microcapsules as a self-healing barrier layer. The study employed isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as the core of the microcapsules. The dominant mechanism of corrosion was pitting corrosion. The behavior of microcapsules confirms their applicability as self- healing agents against corrosion in magnesium alloys. |
