Department of Computer Science (Lublin University of Technology) has been involved
in long‐term activities regarding 3D digitization of the Silk Road heritage. As the result, giga‐
bytes of data were collected and processed, including clouds of points in 3D space, 3D mesh
models, photographs, descriptions, etc. Such rich collection of materials, altogether with their
rich historical legacy, motivated the authors to use some of them as an aid during the teaching
process, especially during the computer graphics course conducted as the part of Computer
Science studies. After analyses involving teaching outcomes and informal interviews, it was
revealed that the Computer Science students achieved better outcomes, and that they were
more engaged in learning activities. The study‐covered period spans over almost the entire last
decade. In future, the authors would like to focus more on gathering students’ attitude data
towards the inclusion of 3D models of the Silk Road heritage during the course of studies.
