| The article presents a synthetic, comparative overview of wheel bearing solutions in motor vehicles, comparing the classic arrangement of two single-row rolling bearings, positioned opposite each other, with a third-generation combined bearing hub. A mathematical model of the dimensional chain was developed and discussed in detail, and tolerance equations determining the longitudinal clearance of a double-row tapered roller bearing assembly were derived. This solution is being implemented in production at FŁT Kraśnik S.A., which gives the analysis an applied character. Based on the tolerance sum equation, the allocation of tolerances for individual links was carried out for two strategies: total interchangeability and partial interchangeability, with an assumed risk level of less than 0.01%. It has been shown that the use of partial interchangeability allows for a nearly threefold extension of the permissible manufacturing tolerances without violating the functional requirements, which in practice eliminates the need for selective component selection. |
