| The paper deals with the problem of numerically simulating the formation of cracks in the axial zone of elements formed by cross wedge rolling (CWR). Experimental research has shown that the size of such cracks depends on both the form- ing temperature and the reduction ratio (a measure of plastic deformation in the CWR process). By numerically simulat- ing the CWR cases carried out under experimental conditions, it was possible to determine the critical damage values of the formed material (in this case C45 steel). This allowed the development of mathematical relationships to calculate the critical damage value depending on the temperature, reduction ratio and damage criterion (three criteria were used, i.e. Rice & Tracey, Cockcroft-Latham, Oyane). The application of the critical damage relationships obtained in this way in CWR simulations allowed effective fracture prediction. The numerical analyses were performed using the commercial software Forge® NxT. |
