| This article presents a case of damage to a glass trailer, along with an in-depth analysis using knowledge and modern engineering tools. Forces and stresses in the securing nodes were calculated, and the cause of the damage was identified. A hypothesis regarding incorrect design assumptions related to the underestimation of the forces acting on the hydraulic supports during securing and transporting the load. To verify the analytical calculations, a strength analysis using finite element method (FEM) was performed. Standard analysis for bold preload and explicit simulations for quick and big deformations were conducted. The results of these calculations and simulations confirmed that the yield point of Re = 235 MPa had been exceeded locally in the guide rail material. The lack of pads, which would have reduced surface pressures and distributed the bending forces over a longer distance, contributed to the permanent damage to the components. |
