| This paper presents a quantitative analysis of the impact of weather conditions on the energy balance of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a take-off weight of 55 kg. Using telemetry data from missions with a distance of 317.44 km (duration: 3.40 h), the Wind Penalty Factor (WPF) was determined, which was 13.29% for the flight profile studied. A sector analysis has shown that aerodynamic drag in the headwind sector increases the unit cost of transport (SEC) to 834 kJ/km. Particular attention was paid to the phenomenon of the “Landing Paradox”: it has been shown that the descent phase performed in strong headwinds generates higher hourly fuel consumption (on average 2.15 L/h) than the horizontal flight phase. The results indicate the need to consider wind vector as a critical variable in predictive energy management algorithms. |
