This paper investigates the microstructure of Ti foams and their mechanical behavior under compression load during a μCT scan. Metal foams (70% of designed porosity) are created using Ti powder (average diameter of 0.15 mm) and saccharose particles of different shapes and an average size of 0.8 mm. The analysis of the μCT results show that the pore volume is almost linearly deformed during compression. The eccentricity of the pores is also evaluated, as well as their orientation during compression. The pore shapes are deformed into more flattened forms and their major axes are rotated into the horizontal plane. The interconnection area has an initial value of 0.244 mm2 for spherical pores and 0.193 mm2 for polyhedral pores. |
