Titanium alloys are widely used in demanding applications including aviation, and areonautical industries and biomedical devices. The paper presents an attempt to increase wear resistance of Ti-6AI-4V alloy by pulsed laser cladding with steel filler wire.Clad beads were deposited at various deposition parameters to evaluate ther effect on clad geometry and microhardness.Erosive wear intensity was evaluated in the test withsillica abrasive. Steel clads were also deposited on Ni-base and Cu-base interlavers to minimize a determinal effect of brittle intermetallic phases, clad deformation and cracing. The erosive wear resistance of two layered clads with QuCu65 layer was significantly higher than that for one layer deposits. The presence of brittle intermetallic phases in clads was confirmed in EDS and XRDexperiments. The hardness and thickness of brittle intermetallics zone can be controled by adjusting processing paramenters. |
