| The present study contains the short presentation of the concept of sustainable development (eco-development) as well as the definition of rural tourism in relation to other types of tourism specified in professional literature. A relatively big space was dedicated to the problem associated with the possibility to implement the principles of sustainable development into tourism sector as well as to the guidelines contained in selected documents and indicating the actions oriented towards the development of environment friendly tourism. The role performed by the local self-governments has been emphasized in the processes associated with the programming of local development based upon dominating tourism function as well as in maintaining and strengthening of tourism potential contained mainly in natural resources. The results obtained from field investigations have been refereed to in the final part of the study; these results seem to demonstrate that the accommodations providers in rural areas increasingly better understand (despite of certain imperfections) the need of care of the nature. This need should be considered in the development of their everyday activity in tourism sector. |
